Upholstery in Kenmore — Re-covering the Furniture Family Life Wears Out

Modulars, sectionals and dining chairs from Kenmore homes, re-covered and re-padded at our Salisbury workshop

More than half of Kenmore's families are couples raising children, and most of the suburb's households are still paying off the home they live in. That combination tends to produce a modular that has hosted every sleepover and a set of dining chairs that has seen every school project, all of it too good to replace and too worn to ignore. Integrity Lounge Designs offers upholstery in Kenmore for that furniture, re-covering and re-padding lounges, sectionals and chairs and repairing what sits underneath, from our one workshop in Salisbury.

Family furniture does not wear evenly. The middle seat of a modular flattens long before the ends, the arm everyone leans on goes shiny, and the dining chair closest to the kitchen loosens first. By the time the household notices, the cover usually looks tired everywhere.

The frame under all that wear is often fine. Reupholstering keeps it and gives the piece new fabric and upgraded fillings, and older lounges in particular often have better timber frames than many mass-produced modern ones. We bring traditional hand skills and modern techniques to every job, and after more than two decades as an upholstery workshop in Brisbane we can usually tell you quickly what a piece needs.

Local knowledge

What Kenmore homes and venues send us

According to Wikipedia, modern Kenmore began in the early 1950s, when Hooker's bought dairy farming land around Dumbarton Drive, and earthworks for the village shopping centre followed in the 1960s. The suburb still keeps traces of its earlier life, including the heritage-listed Kenmore Park homestead on Acworth Street. Today its shopping is split between Kenmore Village Shopping Centre, which also has offices, and Kenmore Plaza on Moggill Road opposite Marshall Lane.

The 2021 Census shows who furnishes those homes. Kenmore households are far more likely than average to be families: 80.8% are family households, against 70.5% nationally, and 53.3% of families are couples with children, compared with 43.7% across Australia. One-parent families make up another 13.7%.

Ownership is settled but not finished. Some 45.6% of Kenmore homes are owned with a mortgage, well above the national 35.0%, another 35.8% are owned outright, and only 17.0% are rented, little more than half the national rate of 30.6%.

For upholstery, that profile points to households who own their furniture, intend to stay, and use every piece hard while the children are at home. Reupholstering a well-built modular or a set of dining chairs suits those households because it keeps furniture they already know fits the room. Upholstery in Kenmore also reaches beyond the home, since the offices and shops around the two shopping centres have reception and waiting seating of their own.

We have no shopfront, branch or staff in Kenmore. All upholstery in Kenmore is done at our Salisbury workshop. For many jobs we can arrange pick-up and drop-off between Kenmore and Salisbury; your quote confirms the options and any associated costs.

Workshop notes

What tends to go wrong, and how we handle it

01

A modular or sectional flattened in the middle

Why it happens

The centre seats of a large lounge carry most of the family's weight, every evening and every weekend.

Why it matters

Uneven cushions make the whole lounge uncomfortable and look worse than the frame deserves.

How we handle it

We re-pad with high-resilience foams that hold their shape in Queensland conditions and re-cover the modular so it sits evenly again.

02

Fabric that has given up before the frame

Why it happens

Spills, scuffs, pets and strong sun all reach the cover long before they reach the timber.

Why it matters

A worn cover often sends a sound lounge to the kerb when only its outer layer has failed.

How we handle it

We re-cover lounges and sofas in fabrics chosen for humidity, everyday use and sun exposure, keeping the frame you already own.

03

Springs and webbing that have let go

Why it happens

Children jumping, climbing and landing on a lounge put sudden loads on springs and webbing.

Why it matters

Once support fails underneath, new cushions alone will not fix the sag.

How we handle it

Our spring, webbing and structural reinforcement restores the support, and frames are checked and repaired before any fabric is fitted.

04

Dining chairs and bar stools with tired seats

Why it happens

Chairs and stools at the family table and kitchen bench are used at every meal and plenty of times in between.

Why it matters

Torn or flattened seats make a good dining setting feel uncomfortable and look neglected.

How we handle it

We reupholster dining chairs and bar stools, re-padding the seats and re-gluing or tightening frames that have loosened.

05

Reception and waiting seating in a local business

Why it happens

Seating in offices, clinics and cafés is used by a stream of people who all notice its condition.

Why it matters

Worn customer seating reflects on the business that owns it.

How we handle it

We reupholster reception lounges, waiting room seating, clinic seating, café banquettes and office breakout furniture, with organised, communicative and realistic timeframes.

06

Furniture that no longer suits a changed room

Why it happens

Families renovate, extend and rearrange, and a lounge or chair can end up in a space it was not bought for.

Why it matters

Sound furniture is often replaced simply because it no longer suits the layout.

How we handle it

We make custom alterations so existing furniture suits a new room or layout.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can a large modular be reupholstered?

Yes. Family lounges, modulars and sectionals are a core part of our residential work. We check the frame, springs and webbing, re-pad where the seats have flattened, and re-cover every section in the fabric you choose.

What fabric suits a home with young children?

We help you choose fabrics for humidity, everyday use and sun exposure, from classic weaves to modern performance textiles. Breathable weaves with good lightfastness are a sound starting point, and we will talk through how the lounge is used before you decide.

Do you reupholster seating for businesses in Kenmore?

We do. Our commercial work includes reception lounges, waiting room seating, clinic and practice seating, restaurant and café banquettes, and office breakout and meeting furniture, managed with organised, communicative and realistic timeframes.

Is pick-up available for a lounge in Kenmore?

Pick-up and drop-off can be arranged for many jobs, with the options and any associated costs confirmed at quote. Smaller pieces can also be brought to the Salisbury workshop during opening hours.

Is it worth reupholstering rather than buying a new lounge?

Often it is, especially for older lounges, which frequently have better timber frames than mass-produced modern pieces. Reupholstering gives that frame new fabric and upgraded fillings. We look at the piece first and tell you honestly which way we would go.
