Custom Lounge in Bulimba — Built to Fit Apartments, Townhouses and Family Homes

Custom Lounge in Bulimba — Built to Fit Apartments, Townhouses and Family Homes

One suburb, every size of home: seating made to order at our Salisbury workshop, crafting custom lounges since 1999

Bulimba's homes range from one-bedroom apartments to four-bedroom houses, often within a few streets of each other, and a lounge that suits one rarely suits the next. A custom lounge in Bulimba is built for the room it will actually occupy. Integrity Lounge Designs makes lounge furniture to order in Brisbane, working from understanding your space and lifestyle through measurements, fabric selection, frame construction and final upholstery. All of it happens at our Salisbury workshop; we have no showroom in Bulimba.

Showroom lounges come in a handful of standard sizes, and the floor plans of Bulimba homes do not. An apartment living room might have one long wall and a balcony door to work around. A townhouse may need a lounge that defines an open-plan space without blocking it. A large family house may want a full seating arrangement across two living areas.

Building to order lets the lounge follow the room. You choose the size, the design style, the cushioning, and the fabric, leather and colour, and we build it on a high-grade timber frame with precision-cut foam and commercial-grade upholstery fabric.

Local knowledge

What Bulimba homes and venues send us

Wikipedia describes Bulimba as an affluent inner eastern suburb on the southern bank of the Brisbane River, with leafy residential streets and traditional Queenslander homes, and gives its area as 2.9 square kilometres. The 2021 Census counted 3,360 private dwellings in that compact area, and they are a remarkably mixed collection.

Separate houses make up 45.7% of Bulimba's dwellings, well under the national 72.3%. Flats and apartments account for 39.5%, nearly three times the national 14.2%, and semi-detached homes, terraces and townhouses for 14.7%, against 12.6%. Bedroom counts are spread just as widely: 7.1% of dwellings have one bedroom, 29.2% have two, 29.3% have three and 33.3% have four or more. Nationally, two-bedroom homes are only 19.1% of the stock.

That spread is the case for building a custom lounge in Bulimba. With roughly equal shares of two-bedroom, three-bedroom and four-or-more-bedroom homes, there is no single typical living room to design for. The average household of 2.4 people, close to the national 2.5, still needs a lounge that seats everyone, but the room it has to fit varies far more here than in a suburb of near-identical houses.

Bulimba also has a working commercial strip. Wikipedia describes a prominent dining and retail precinct centred on Oxford Street, and venues there need seating that fits their floor plan, not a catalogue's.

We have no shopfront, showroom or staff in Bulimba. Each Bulimba lounge, banquette or seating piece is designed and made at our Salisbury workshop, and the project details are agreed with you before building begins.

Workshop notes

What tends to go wrong, and how we handle it

01

An apartment living room with one usable wall

Why it happens

Flats and apartments make up 39.5% of Bulimba's dwellings, and their living rooms often have doors, windows and balconies on most sides.

Why it matters

A standard lounge can be just too long for the only wall it fits against, or too deep for the walkway in front of it.

How we handle it

We work from measurements of your space and build the frame to suit, so length and depth are set by the room.

02

A townhouse where the lounge has to define the space

Why it happens

Open-plan townhouses and terraces often rely on the lounge to separate living from dining.

Why it matters

The wrong shape blocks circulation or leaves the space feeling unresolved.

How we handle it

We discuss how you live in the space before design starts, and we offer a wide range of design styles to suit the layout.

03

A large family house with more than one living area

Why it happens

A third of Bulimba dwellings have four or more bedrooms, and 44.1% of families are couples with children.

Why it matters

Furnishing several rooms piece by piece can leave seating that does not belong together.

How we handle it

We build anything from a single statement sofa to a complete seating arrangement, with fabrics and colours chosen across the whole set.

04

Choosing a material for daily life

Why it happens

Leather, a hard-wearing weave or a softer fabric each suit a different household.

Why it matters

A cover chosen for looks alone can be the wrong choice for how the lounge is used.

How we handle it

We offer a wide range of fabrics, leather options, colours and cushioning, and talk through the choice with you during fabric selection.

05

A café or restaurant that needs seating built to its floor plan

Why it happens

Hospitality fit-outs rarely suit off-the-shelf seating, especially along walls and in corners.

Why it matters

Seating that does not fit wastes covers and floor space.

How we handle it

We build banquette and booth seating for cafés and restaurants in custom configurations to match the venue's layout, along with bar stools, bench seating and bar fronts.

06

A shop, office or waiting area that needs a finished look

Why it happens

Retail and office spaces often need seating and fittings that carry a consistent style.

Why it matters

Mismatched furniture undermines an otherwise considered fit-out.

How we handle it

We make seating for offices, retail spaces and waiting areas, and our custom-made range also includes ottomans, banquet seating and wall panelling.

Can you build a lounge small enough for a Bulimba apartment?

Yes. Every custom lounge is made to order, beginning with understanding your space and taking initial measurements, so the size is set by your room rather than by a standard range.

Yes. We build banquette and booth seating for cafés and restaurants in custom configurations to match the venue's layout, and we also make bar stools, bench seating, bar fronts and wall panelling.

What is a custom lounge made from?

A high-grade timber frame, precision-cut foam and commercial-grade upholstery fabric, with a wide choice of fabrics, leather options, colours, cushioning and design styles.

Is there a showroom in Bulimba?

No. Each custom lounge in Bulimba is made at our Salisbury workshop at 12c Chrome Street. We have no shopfront or showroom in Bulimba.

How long does a made-to-order lounge take?

We give you a timeframe once your requirements are discussed, because it depends on the design and materials, and we keep you informed through design and manufacture.
